New concept created in 2011 by Chicago's renown percussionist Joe Rendon and Chicago's legendary singer Devin Thompson.
The leading congero in Chicago, Joe Rendon,brings his deep knowledge of traditional Afro-Cuban percussion and chants as well as his virtuosity and ability to adapt the congas to any style of music. Joe has performed with Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera, Andy Montanez, Irakere, Armando Peraza and many other Latin artists.
Salsa meets Soul!
Devin Thompson was born in Joliet, Illinois. Growing up in a family steeped in gospel, rhythm and blues and jazz, Devin took to music at an early age. Devin sang his first solo in church at the age of five. At 12 years of age, he joined his older brother’s band, Mezzo Forte, honing his skills of singing and playing the trumpet. Devin went on to do backup work for R. Kelly, Steve Cole, Chante Savage and Martha Walsh of the Weather Girls fame. To date, Devin has recorded numerous jingles, a CD entitled, Club Zero, and was featured on the soundtrack for the Disney movie, Holes.
The band has already performed at The 15th Annual Chicago Summer Dance at Jacson Park as part of The Latin Street Salsa Congreso 2011 Launch Pre-Party on Aug 17th, 2011 and getting ready to perform at The Cubby Bear Live Salsa sundays on October 16th, 2011.
