Chicago artist Angel Meléndez gets nominated for the
47th Annual Grammy Awards on debut recording.
Tuesday, Dec 7th, 2004 — Chicago-based artist, Angel Meléndez, received today a
nomination to the 47th Annual Grammy Awards in the category of “Best Traditional
Tropical Album”. The winners will be announced on Sunday February 13th at The
Staples Center in Los Angeles. Other Latin artists nominated in their respective
categories include: Marc Anthony, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Victor Manuelle, Spanish
Harlem Orchestra, Juanes, Paulina Rubio & Carlos Vives among many others.
Angel Meléndez & The 911 Mambo Orchestra is made up by 21 top musicians from
Chicago. The CD features 3 original songs & 9 re-arrangements of “Latin Music
Hits” by Angel Meléndez. His music pays homage to the Latin music legends Dámaso
Pérez Prado, Consuelo Velázquez, Alvaro Carrillo, Rafael Hernández, Tito Puente,
Frankie Ruíz & Selena. The CD was fully recorded in Chicago, and engineered by
16 grammy winner music legend Jon Fausty. The recording is also the first
production by new Chicago record label Latin Street Music and producer Andrés
